There's a knife the navy SEALS use. It's fantastic.
Any of the SOG knives are great. I have the revolving blade saw/knife, and it's never let me down. Had it for 4 years already and use it every year hiking and camping. Hasn't even needed to be resharpened yet.
check the website below.

Marines love K-Bars! If you can find an old school K-bar with the marine corps logo on it he will love you forever. it has a black blade, brown leather sheath and handle. have his name engraved on it.

the place where you learn to use it
boot
over back
belt sheath with thigh tie-down
upside down on suspender of non-firing shoulder
find a spot that you kinda like, practice taking and returning
then try other positions
then do all the same with full equipment, and see
partly depends on the size of the knife
partly on your body build
and usual equipment load

Your choice......should be where you have easy NATURAL access
In Grenada I carried mine on the inside of my left forearm...... know others to carry it behind the neck......do not recommend the boot as accessing it is awkward and a dead give away
Also......do not flash the knife..... the knife is not to scare people it is there to kill people...... nobody should know you have it until it hits their ribs
EDIT.....In the jungle I carried mine fixed upside down on the left shoulder strap of my ruck sack

The VF-1 Stilleto, specifically designed for the Devils Brigade, which was the precursor to modern Special Forces. Knives were strapped to the lower calf because in a fight thats where they were trained to draw it from. If they are in Hand to hand combat they are gonna be rolling on the ground anyway so its easy for him to get it while at the same time making it harder for his enemy to take it from him.
